Schools

Find the schools for any address.

Type an address in Flagler, Volusia, St. Johns or Putnam County. You'll see its school district and, from the district's own zone maps, the assigned schools, each with its state report card.

For example: 300 Palm Coast Pkwy NE, Palm Coast, FL 32137. Nothing you type is saved.

The four districts

One school district per county

In Florida, each county is its own school district, so the county an address is in decides the district. Within a district, your address decides the zoned schools. Here are the basics for each, straight from the districts, with links so you can check for yourself.

A grade is one measure; visit the schools and read the full report cards.

Online options

Virtual school

Florida students can learn online full time or take single courses, free. Every district offers its own virtual school, and Florida Virtual School serves the whole state.

Homeschooling

Homeschooling in Florida

Florida calls it a home education program. The parent directs it, and you don't need a teaching certificate. The program is registered with your county's school district to meet the attendance law; it is not a district program. Here's how it works under Florida law.

1. File a notice of intent

Send a written, signed notice to your county's school superintendent within 30 days of starting. It lists each child's full legal name, address and birthdate. The district registers the program right away and can't ask for more than that.

Florida Statutes s. 1002.41(1)(a)

2. Keep a portfolio

Keep a log of what you teach, written as you go, with the titles of the books and reading materials you use, plus samples of your child's writing, worksheets, workbooks or creative work. Keep it for 2 years. The district may ask to see it with 15 days' written notice.

Florida Statutes s. 1002.41(1)(d)-(e)

3. Have an annual evaluation

Once a year, file an evaluation with the superintendent. You pick one of five ways: a Florida-certified teacher reviews the portfolio and talks with your child; a nationally normed test given by a certified teacher; the state assessment given by a certified teacher; a licensed psychologist; or another method you and the superintendent agree on.

Florida Statutes s. 1002.41(1)(f)

4. When you stop

File a written notice of termination, with the annual evaluation, within 30 days of ending the program (for example, when your child goes back to school).

Florida Statutes s. 1002.41(1)(c)

Scholarships

Personalized Education Program (PEP) is a parent-directed, homeschool-style education savings account under the Florida Tax Credit Scholarship. A PEP student is not a home education student under s. 1002.41: PEP families register with a scholarship organization instead of filing a notice with the district, and the student takes a yearly norm-referenced or state test. Applications for 2026-27 closed April 30, 2026. Step Up For Students: PEP

Family Empowerment Scholarship for Students with Unique Abilities (FES-UA) is an education savings account for students with a qualifying disability, and it can be used by registered home education students. Step Up For Students: FES-UA

Family Empowerment Scholarship for Educational Options (FES-EO) mainly pays private school tuition; it isn't used for home education. FLDOE scholarship programs

Approved scholarship organizations for 2026-27: Step Up For Students, A.A.A. Scholarship Foundation-FL and Sunshine State Kids. FLDOE list

College classes, sports and online courses

Dual enrollment: home education high schoolers can take college courses tuition-free. You sign a home education articulation agreement with the college (here, Daytona State College or St. Johns River State College), show proof of home education, and handle transportation. s. 1007.271

Sports and activities: a home education student may take part in public school extracurricular activities at a school in your home district, paying the same fees as enrolled students, and shows progress by a method agreed on with the principal. s. 1006.15

FLVS Flex: free individual online courses for grades K-12. Your child stays a home education student, can take up to 6 courses a semester, and FLVS Flex doesn't issue a diploma. FLVS Flex for homeschool

Bright Futures: home education students can qualify for Florida's Bright Futures scholarships; they don't need a standard diploma. Check the current handbook for test scores and service hours. s. 1009.531

Your county's home education office

This is general information, not legal advice. It was checked against the 2026 Florida Statutes and the official pages linked here on October 30, 2026. Laws and program rules change; confirm with your district's home education office and the Florida Department of Education .

Common questions

How do I find out which schools an address is zoned for?

Type the address into the locator at the top of this page. It shows the county school district and, from the district's own zone data, the assigned elementary, middle and high schools. Then confirm with the district, because zones can change.

If I buy a home, is the school zone guaranteed?

No. School boards can change attendance zones, and new schools open as counties grow. Before you buy, confirm the address with the district's own zone finder or its school zoning office, and ask whether any boundary changes are being considered.

What is a Florida school grade?

Each year the Florida Department of Education gives most public schools a letter grade from A to F based on the share of points earned on measures such as state test achievement, learning gains, graduation and acceleration. The 2025-26 grades were released in July 2026. Each school's full report card is on the FLDOE Know Your Schools site.

Can my child attend a school other than the zoned school?

Often, yes. Every Florida district has controlled open enrollment for schools with room, plus charter schools, magnet or academy programs and virtual school. Each district sets its own application windows; see the district cards on this page.

What do I need to register my child for school in Florida?

Usually a birth certificate, the Florida immunization form (DH 680), a school physical (DH 3040) and proof of where you live. Each district has its own list of residency documents; the district cards on this page link to them.

How do I start homeschooling in Florida?

File a written notice of intent with your county school superintendent within 30 days of starting, keep a portfolio for 2 years, and file an annual evaluation. Florida Statutes section 1002.41 sets the rules. Your county's home education office can answer questions.

Is the PEP scholarship the same as homeschooling?

No. PEP (the Personalized Education Program) is a scholarship that pays for a parent-directed education. PEP families register with a scholarship organization, not the school district, and a PEP student is not a home education student under s. 1002.41.

Can homeschool students take college classes or play sports?

Yes. Home education high schoolers can take dual enrollment college courses tuition-free under an articulation agreement with the college, and can take part in public school sports and activities in their home district.
